've had a morning as chilly as we've had no. most of the region, we're in the 40s, thanks to this chilly dry high pressure, which a couple of days ago had temperatures down to near 20 degrees in minnesota, but certainly did moderate as it came over us. around the area, we have temperatures where you see the light blue in the 40s, and that includes much of northern virginia, just about all of maryland, including the eastern shore, and out of the mountains, a few of those areas in the darker blue, they're in the 30s in a few locations out in worcester and maryland and in the highlands of west virginia. quite a chill in the air this morning. thankfully not much wind. we'll be talk windchill. right now it's 56 at reagan national. that's the coolest temperature there since way last may. look at ocean city. they're down to a chilly 53. elkins, west virginia at 39 degrees. closer to washington it's in the 40s. montgomery, arlington, fairfax, prince george's counties. chilly and calm. lots of sun the rest of the day with highs reaching the mid 70s by afternoon. i'll be back in ten minutes. now a

. mom and baby seem to be doing fine. news 4's megan mcgrath at the national zoo with more on this exciting news. megan? >> reporter: very exciting news. it's been described as a glorious surprise. mei xiang has given birth to a cub overnight. she's had five pseudopregnancies, a lot of false alarms. there was an ultrasound two weeks ago that didn't show anything, no fetus. there were people who thought, well, maybe this is another one of those false alarms. a little before 11:00 last night, they heard the sounds of a cub. i'm joined by dr. brandi smith, senior curator here. talk about that. you heard the sounds. a bit of a surprise. >> it was. we're prepared for anything. so we have volunteers in the n panda house 24 hours a day. we heard the first squeals of a panda cub. we had to watch for a little while to make sure we could believe it, and we have a cub. >> reporter: talk about mei xiang. she's built quite a house, quite a den in the panda house. >> all of you looking at the panda cam will notice this panda in the midst of this huge bamboo nest. she's being a great mo

continues this morning into the flooding problems in d.c.'s bloomingdale and le droit park neighborhoods. >> here is more video offed -- of flooding after a series of summer storms. d.c. water officials met thursday and decided the situation was its top priority. they talked about one of the measures they are taking to mitigate flooding in the area. >> this is a workshop on backflow prevention and a backflow preventer is a device that could be installed in the individual home to prevent a sewage backup. d.c. water has a rebate program for the installation and this workshop and the one on saturday are designed to help home owners understand what questions they should be asking their plumbers when they are preparing to get one installed in their homes. >> matt ackland got an exclusive look for the search for the problem in the sewer system. here is his report. >> this is a reverse inspection. >> reporter: it is a massive search for what might be a big clog in the tunnels under bloomingdale and le droit park. d.c. water has deployed video cameras to inspect all 90,000 square feet of tunnel
